Seminar by: Peter Markland Wako GB Chief Referee & Member of Wako European Tatami Committee
PART ONE: All participants will be taught the new WAKO rules for tatami sports including Points Fighting, Light Contact and Kick Light whilst watching an in-depth Power Point presentation. They will learn how to check fighter’s protective equipment including clothing and jewelry. All participants will carry out practical refereeing and judging on the tatami, using fighters of different levels. Everyone will learn the WAKO hand signs and voice commands for ALL WAKO tatami sport disciplines.
PART TWO: ALL participants must complete the official ‘International WAKO Referees Exam Test Paper’. All successful participants will be awarded a WAKO referees certificate, shirt and bow tie on the day of the seminar. The WAKO World Organisation accredits this seminar.
Note for existing WAKO referees & judges: All WAKO refereeing & judging qualifications must be renewed every TWO years. Please try to attend this seminar so that your qualifications are up to date for WAKO tournaments.
Already qualified referees & judges can expect: A run through of the NEW WAKO rules including the new area exit warnings and then most importantly be taking part in lots of practical work refereeing and judging fighters at different levels. This will involve scenarios on how to cope with more challenging incidents that we have witnessed at recent European, Continental and world-level tournaments. We will discuss the powers of medics and what happens with fighters who are injured but still want to fight.
Finally we will spend time on the duties of a centre referee and observer. The objective is to up-skill existing referees and increase knowledge. We want to improve practical capabilities in a view that referees and judges become more capable to officiate at international WAKO tournaments.
Yours in fair play & improving standards
Peter Markland
